Taala Tamate

What happens when children listen with their whole bodies? What if rhythm becomes a game, a conversation, a celebration?

Taala Tamate is a dance production inspired by the Tamate (also known as the Parai), one of India's oldest percussion instruments. Rich in rhythm, energy, and movement, the Tamate becomes the heartbeat of a world where children lead the celebration through dance, imagination, and play. Originally created with professional artists, Taala Tamate now takes on a new form in collaboration with Makkala Jagruti. Created with forty children, this version celebrates childhood through rhythm, movement, imagination, playfulness, and uninhibited expression. Every smile, gesture, and burst of energy becomes part of the choreography.

The Tamate is more than an instrument it is a playmate. Its rhythms invite children to move instinctively, create together, and discover joy through music, movement, and shared experiences.

At its heart, Taala Tamate is a celebration of rhythm, imagination, and togetherness. Through the vibrant sounds of the Tamate and the boundless energy of young performers, the production invites audiences to rediscover the joy of play, movement, and collective celebration.
