About this Event
System Design & Optimization (SDO) – 3 Days*
09:30- 17:30
This course explores the relationship between the predictive perspective of the MAPP 3D Sound System Design Tool and actual sound system performance as measured with FFT‑based transfer‑function analyzers. The instructor(s) will generate and compare data using both tools, in order to help users better understand the correlation between the two. Upon completion of the course, attendees will possess a clearer idea of how sound systems behave in both modelled and real space, and with it, a more informed approach to accurately designing and optimizing systems using Meyer Sound solutions.
SDO is eligible for 18 AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I RU.
The registration fee includes training materials, AVIXA CTS RU, Eventbrite fees, morning coffee + pastries, and an optional Meyer Sound Factory tour on Friday, February 7th 9:30am-11:30am.
COVID POLICY: Meyer Sound requires that all visitors must be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination. Unvaccinated visitors will not be allowed to enter Meyer Sound. Face masks are not required, but may be worn if you wish.
Instructor:
Bob McCarthy
Director of System Optimization
Bob McCarthy’s involvement in the field of sound system optimization began in 1984 with the development of Source Independent Measurement (SIM®), which was inducted into the TEC Awards Hall of Fame in 2019. He has been an active force in modern sound system design and optimization for over 35 years, including three generations of SIM, thousands of designs, tunings, training seminars and publications. Bob has had the privilege to work with many great sound designers, including Abe Jacob, Andrew Bruce, Tony Meola, Jonathan Deans, Francois Desjardins and more, and has been charged with tuning systems for Cirque Du Soleil, Walt Disney Entertainment, Carnegie Hall, Celine Dion, Grateful Dead and others. Musical theater credits include Les Miserables, The Beatles’ LOVE, Wicked and many more. Recent designs and tunings include the ongoing Metallica WorldWired tours, Roskilde Festival, Shanghai Disney Resort and more.
His award-winning book, Sound Systems: Design and Optimization, now in its third edition, has sold over 15,000 copies in three languages. USITT presented Bob with the Distinguished Achievement in Sound Award in 2014. Bob is well known in the field of audio education and delivered the keynote address at the 50th AES Conference, which was the first ever dedicated to audio education.
Instructor:
Costandina 'Costa" Daros
Associate Technical Instructor
Costandina Daros is a graduate of UC Irvine’s MFA Sound Design program. Her love of sound started in Theatrical Sound Design and has been growing ever since. Some of her favorite past designs include Birds of North America (The Odyssey), The Little Prince (South Coast Repertory), and her MFA thesis show Rent (UC Irvine) which featured a Meyer Spacemap Go System with Ultra-X40s to track the vocals. In her role as Meyer Sound’s Associate Technical Instructor she looks forward to sharing her knowledge while making learning accessible to all.
