BIO:
Singing songs that were originally recorded by such artists as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and Anita O’Day has been Sylvia’s passion for as long as she can remember. A bit unusual some might say, but for her, wanting to create a style all her own and finding a way to make it somewhat of a novelty was her goal.
Growing up in a small town just outside of Carson, CA is where Sylvia worked on her craft, listening ever so intently to the unique phrasing of each vocalist while taking note of the swingin’ styles made famous by fellas like Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Nat King Cole and the like.
She quickly gained popularity as the vocalist of the Long Beach -based, 7-piece swing band, The Swing of Things. For over 20 years, the band has performed a coveted engagement at the elegant Sky Room in Long Beach; a 1930s original art deco supper club. She also has had the great fortune of performing for Maxwell DeMilles’ Cicada Club in downtown Los Angeles, another historic landmark of the 1930s.
Making her way to the bright lights of Las Vegas, Sylvia was invited to perform in the Grand Ballroom of the Treasure Island Casino. She has also been noted to perform for such clientele as HBO television, The Home Depot Center, and Disney.
They say the young at heart never grow old and for Sylvia, that’s good enough. With her natural ability to deliver a song, Ms. Sylvia Rodriguez is making her mark in the music world.
