Taiko South West are very excited to announce the opportunity to take part of a workshop delivered by a brilliant guest instructor this summer.
Franco Imperial, Artistic Director of San Jose Taiko, California USA. Franco will be running San Jose Taiko’s brand new Swingposium workshop at the Taiko Centre on Tuesday 9th June 2026. Whilst we appreciate a weekday is an unusual time to run a workshop, we are fitting them into Franco’s busy schedule during his trip to Europe.

Franco will run the same workshop twice on the 9th. This workshop will be a ‘behind the scenes’ peek of how San Jose Taiko’s unique & immersive project was conceived, developed, and continues to evolve. Participants will learn small portions of various taiko choreography from the show along with takeaways for how an art form can be utilized to tell stories that connect to many communities.

Swingposium debuted in 2018 and tells the story of Swing music and dance at “camp” during the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans. The links below give you more of an insight of what you’ll get to experience,
