Swing Dance Lessons - Summer Balboa Series

Come shuffle, swing, and groove with us for our fall series of balboa lessons on Tuesdays at 7:45 pm at the Cleveland Heights Recreation Center. Sign ups are located here as a Summer 2026 Adult Programing activity:

This is a six lesson progressive course starting July 7 and running through August 18, with no class on July 28 (though participants will be encouraged to visit the CLE Urban Winery to try out their new moves at the Last Tuesday Swing Jam!) If you miss the first class, that's ok! We will do a recap and get you up to speed!
Classes are sold as a progressive series with each class building on skills learned the week before. The total cost for the series is $50 for Cleveland Heights residents and $65 for non-residents. (That's only $8.33/11 per lesson! Wow!)
Balboa is a partnered swing dance, born from the thriving multi-cultural community of southern California in the 1920s. Amidst a booming Jazz age, young adults answered the question, how do we move and express ourselves when we don't have any space on the dance floor. This class is both for brand spanking-new dancers as well as intermediate dancers, with classes being split at times to work on different skills for both groups. Topics will cover foundations, rhythm, new movement patterns, connection, and improvisation on the dance floor.
No partner or experience necessary. Dancers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and wear shoes that allow for little to no traction on the dance floor.
Participants should also note that GPS directions will bring you to the employee entrance of the rec center. Please use the front entrance, accessible from the entrance on Monticello near the Mayfield intersection.
