Swing and Surf 2026

Wanting a relaxed weekend to say goodbye to the summer where you can surf, swim and swing dance?! Well Swing and Surf is back!
After the success of the 2023 event run by Jess Stevenson, which got Exeter + Bristol dancers together, Claire and I wanted to do it again and this time we are in Woolacombe! We would love to see dancers from other areas as well this time - so if you want to swim, surf and dance away any back to school/work blues then click ‘interested’ or ‘going’ so we can gauge numbers.
Dates: Fri 4th – Sun 6th September
Location: Woolacombe, North Devon
The plan is we’ll spend the days getting our ocean fix however we feel like: surfing, swimming, walking or just chilling on the beach and then dance the night away on Saturday.
Friday 4th
* Arrive, settle in, beach time if there’s light
* Optional night out in Woolacombe (if people are up for it)
Saturday 5th
* Daytime: surf / swim / coastal walk
* Evening Swing dance - 7pm until late
Woolacombe Village Hall
A relaxed social dance run off a playlist (not a formal band/DJ night unless someone wants to volunteer to DJ!)
Small contribution towards the hall hire if you’re able
BYOB (please take your empties with you)
We’re aiming to do this on a cost-only basis, so numbers help
Sunday 6th
* One last ocean fix (or slow coffee + stroll)
* Head home feeling refreshed!
The beach:
Woolacombe is a great spot for beginner surfers: wide beach, loads of space, and you can take it at your own pace.
If you want a surf lesson, message me: if enough people are interested I can look into organising it as a group.

Weather:
We may need to change the rough plan depending on the weather on the day.
If it’s raining or the sea is a bit lively, we’ll swap things around and do a walk instead, and aim for sea time when conditions are better. Keep an eye on the chats for updates.
Where to stay:
There’s a host of campsites and accommodation options around Woolacombe but it’s best to book early because places fill up fast.
A few of us are camping at Woolacombe Sands Holiday Park and you’re very welcome to join, or book a campsite or Airbnb nearby that suits you.
Communication:
I will use this the event messenger chat and WhatsApp group to coordinate meet ups and if we need to change plans due to weather/sea conditions. The weekend will be flexible and we’ll adapt if needed. We hope to see you there!
