Los Angeles six-piece Swimming Bell bring their lush Californian alt-folk to Australia for the first time this October. Compared to a folk-era Sharon Van Etten, Meg Baird and Rosali, Swimming Bell is the musical project of Katie Schottland, a Philadelphia-born singer-songwriter whose ethereal melodies and intricate harmonies create a dreamlike sonic landscape. Drawing inspiration from folk traditions, layered vocal textures and atmospheric production, Schottland crafts songs both intimate and otherworldly. Their latest EP, "Somnia', produced by Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith, Beck), deepens this signature sound, immersing listeners in an underwater dreamworld of floating melodies and percussive currents.
With influences from Laurel Canyon folk to modern indie experimentalism, "Somnia" showcases Schottland’s ability to blend warmth with mystery, nostalgia with newness. Also check out her brand new cover of Beck's "The Golden Age":
