Welcome to the Sweater Repair Workshop!Come join us at the George Chuvalo Neighbourhood Centre for a fun and informative event where you'll learn how to mend your favorite sweaters. Whether it's a pesky hole, a loose thread, or a missing button, Meg and Robin will teach you two techniques (needle felting and crochet hooking) on how to repair and upcycle your sweaters with holes in them.
No need to say goodbye to your beloved knits - bring them along and let's get them back in shape together! Join us on this on this community building event that will also help us save money and reduce waste by extending the life of your wardrobe essentials.
Spaces are limited, so be sure to reserve your spot today. See you there!
Session Highlights:
Needle Felting: This session includes a hands-on tutorial with needle felting, a technique that uses special barbed needles and wool roving (wool before it has been spun into yarn) to appliqué a permanent design onto a wool backing. While most animal fibres can felt, regular sheep's wool tends to do so the most thoroughly. What You'll Need To Bring: One or two wool sweaters. A dose of patience and curiosity along with creative ideas for experimental DIY.
Crochet Hooking: This session includes a hands-on tutorial to repair a hole in a sweater with a crochet hook which involves gently pulling the loose threads around the hole back into place and using the hook to weave or crochet small loops through the surrounding fabric, securing the edges and filling in the gap with matching yarn. What You'll Need To Bring:One or two sweaters. A dose of patience and curiosity for experimental DIY
The space will have materials for you to repair your sweaters. You are also encouraged to bring your own materials if you have them.
