Swannanoa River Floodbench Project- Public Information Session

The Town of Black Mountain invites residents to attend an upcoming drop-in Public Information Session to learn more about the Swannanoa River Floodbench & Constructed Wetlands Project, an important initiative focused on improving flood resilience and restoring the health of the Swannanoa River.
Project Scope:
This project will restore approximately 2,800 linear feet of the Swannanoa River using natural stream restoration techniques designed to:
• Reduce flooding during frequent storm events
• Decrease streambank erosion
• Improve water quality and riparian habitat
• Strengthen the long-term stability of the river corridor
The project is funded through a $5 million North Carolina infrastructure grant and is part of the Town’s ongoing efforts to improve stormwater management and protect critical waterways.
Public Information Session

This will be a drop-in style meeting, giving community members the opportunity to review project details, ask questions, and learn how this work will help improve flood mitigation and environmental conditions for the future.
Project Schedule:
•Final plans are completed and all permits have been approved.
•Mobilization for construction is expected to begin in late July 2026.
•Construction is expected to continue through the end of 2026.
This meeting is a drop-in event and is open to the public.
