Swan Song
About this Event
Left alone in the empty theatre after the performance, Svletlovdoff is confronted by the silence that follows a lifetime of applause. With no family, no home, and no life beyond the stage, he begins to unravel. Accompanied by the only other person forgotten in the theatre, the prompter Ivanitch, memories surface; he slips into fragments of Shakespeare and other roles from his past, moving between grand theatrical performance and moments of painful honesty.
At once humorous and deeply poignant, this classic Chekhov monologue reveals an aging actor struggling to separate himself from the characters he has spent his life portraying. Beneath the dramatic flourish lies a man facing loneliness, regret, and the fear of being forgotten.
Know Promises Theatre Collective presents a fresh physical theatre staging of Swan Song, blending expressive movement, stripped-back staging, and dark humour with moments of striking vulnerability. Exploring themes of identity, aging, and the cost of living for performance alone, the production asks what remains when the spotlight fades.
Performed in an intimate setting, this character-driven adaptation invites audiences into the inner world of a man whose greatest performances may have come at the expense of his own life.
