About this Event
Building envelopes have significant demands upon their performance. In just a few hundred millimetres, the façade of a building creates the filter between the inside and outside environments, protecting users on both sides, providing insulation and solar control, thermal comfort, and airtightness. They separate the acoustics of indoor and outdoor spaces all whilst providing integral structural and fire performance. Façades are literally the window in and out of buildings and are a significant proportion of the building’s architectural representation.
As we continue to tackle the climate crisis, facades play an increasingly important role in balancing embodied carbon and natural resource utilisation in their construction against their influence on the reduction of building’s operational carbon in service.
Join us, as we hear from a diverse group of specialists, representing architecture, façade engineering, Passivhaus consultancy and the contractor, who are jointly delivering the New Humanities Building for the University of Oxford, as we assess these often-conflicting criteria with a view towards the future of facades.
