About this Event

Like every quarter, we are organising a thematic event to empower local communities in their sustainability journey, and we are thrilled to have the upcoming one hosted in the beautiful Globe Room at Projects, a B Corp certified co working space in the heart of the Brighton Lanes.

Chaired by Corinne Day, our Biosphere Thematic Lead on Regenerative Business, and in the presence of The Living Coast UNESCO Biosphere chair, Martin Harris, and team, we will introduce several speakers who will share their respective experiences from different business sectors and geographies in our area:


Introduction:

Corinne Day, Biosphere Thematic Lead on Regenerative Business, and Newhaven Enterprise Zone Programme Director & Biosphere team

  • Introducing The Living Coast UNESCO Biosphere and our remit on sustainable economic development.
  • An overview of the local initiatives and tools that are available to local businesses in their sustainability journey.

Mayo Wynne Baxter Solicitors – a Sussex based law firm:

Dean Orgill, Executive Chief Partner, will shed light on how their B Corp certification impacts their business decisions and ensures a balance between purpose, people and profit


The Season’s Wholefoods – an organic food business in East Sussex:

Robin Walden, Director, will share his experience about running a 'Regenerative Business' with his Local Economic Development model


Midnight - a PR Communications agency in Brighton:

Alex Hankinson, Joint Managing Director, will tell us how their B Corp certification impacts their operations and their clients

Chris Hannon, Sustainable Business Strategy Lead, will tell us about the community of micro and small businesses created to support local businesses in their pursuit of sustainability…in the South Downs!


The UN Global Compact Network UK

Discover the UN Global Compact Network UK – the UK branch of the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Uniting 23,000 companies globally, and over 900 in the UK, the network supports companies who are looking for ways to pivot their strategy and drive solutions to shape the future of sustainable business.

Steve Kenzie, Executive Director, will share how they help major UK businesses navigate ongoing business sustainability requirements and pressures, while ensuring commercial success.


Clean Growth UK – accompanying local businesses in their transition to a low-carbon economy

Clean Growth UK is a national innovation network dedicated to accelerating the transition to a sustainable economy, with a local hub based at the University of Brighton:

Dr Marco Picco, Innovation Lead, with a PhD in Industrial Engineering with a focus on Technologies for Energy and Environment, will explain how their NetZero360 programme, carbon calculator, training workshops, and innovation sessions are providing businesses with a comprehensive pathway to achieving net-zero emissions and drive impactful change


Call to Action, Q&A & Informal drinks on the roof top 🍸

The Living Coast UNESCO Biosphere interdisciplinary partnership encompasses a wide array of organisations (voluntary, conservation, community, education, local government, private and public sector). We are a collaborative network sharing best practices and knowledge. Together we promote and deliver actions and solutions supporting sustainable living for everyone in our area. Every quarter we organise thematic meetings that are linked to our strategic goals, inviting a series of local experts to share their knowledge and foster action to tackle climate change & biodiversity loss.
