Survey Springs in the Catalina Mountains

Join Sky Island Alliance in the field to explore a natural springs and other water sources in southern Arizona's Catalinas Mountains. As a group, we’ll decide how to answer the Spring Seeker survey questions, and everyone will get a chance to submit their own surveys and pictures. We'll meet at 8:30 a.m. at the disbursed camping area across from Peppersauce Campground. For those who are carpooling, we'll be leaving at 7 a.m. from Sky Island Alliance's Tucson office.

Hikes will be off-trail, bushwhacking, with abundant cat claw, uneven terrain, and some elevation gain. Hikes can range from 1-5 miles, with very steep slopes. Options also exist for folks with high clearance vehicles to survey wildlife and cattle tanks nearby the road with very little hiking.

2WD cars can make it to the meeting spot, with some caution on the rougher sections of the dirt road from Oracle. Recommended to bring high clearance and AWD or 4WD vehicles for the day of Spring Seeking.

Bring or wear

1. Daypack with water, snacks, medications, first aid kit, etc.
2. Closed-toed shoes
3. Hat, sunscreen, long sleeves (for sun and cat claw protection)
4. Long pants (for catclaw)
5. Anything else you might need for the day

Attendees will be sent additional details in advance. There is not any cell service at the meeting spot, so please install the Spring Seeker app in advance (see webpage link below).
