Surrendering to Grace - Community Grief Ritual
About this Event
The opportunity to surrender to life, allow grief to move through our bodies, and alchemize our losses in a community and ritual container is a healing and kind act towards ourselves and the world we live in.
In many traditional cultures, grief was never meant to be experienced alone. Surrendering to Grace is an invitation to gather in community and gently open to the grief, change, and tenderness of being human. Together, we create space to surrender to life as it is — allowing sorrow, love, and life to move through us with authenticity and presence.
We live in a world shaped by loss, transition, and uncertainty, yet many of us have never been taught how to truly grieve. This gathering offers a ritual and communal space to honor what has been lost, release the burden of carrying it alone, and reconnect with the resilience, aliveness, and grace that emerge when grief is welcomed rather than avoided.
Through community grief ritual, live drumming, singing, meditation, movement, writing, nature connection, and embodied practice, we will explore grief as a doorway to deeper presence, connection, and renewal.
This work welcomes all forms of grief, including:
- loss and death
- life transitions and change
- unmet dreams and disappointments
- illness, betrayal, and heartbreak
- ancestral and collective grief
- environmental and social sorrow
- ruptures within ourselves, our relationships, and our world
Inspired by the grief rituals of the Dagara people of Burkina Faso, the teachings of Sobonfu Somé and Francis Weller, and contemplative Eastern traditions, this 3-day immersion invites participants into a safe and sacred space to:
- honor grief and joy in community
- deepen self-awareness and emotional resilience
- experience the healing power of being witnessed
- reconnect with body, heart, spirit, and nature
- cultivate forgiveness, vitality, and presence
- open to the support of ancestors, community, and the living world
- Integration practices such as breath work, meditation, cultivating joy, and being in nature
Come join us at the grief altar as we surrender to grace, reclaim our capacity for connection and joy, and remember the freedom of being fully alive.
