For more than 40 years, Jim Sisson has been teaching drums and percussion to generations of students in Spring, Texas. He has spent his life giving his time, talent, and heart to kids and families, and especially to members of the special needs community.
Now, it’s our turn to give back to him.
In 2026, Jim’s life was hit with one challenge after another. He was diagnosed with melanoma, which thankfully was able to be surgically removed without the need for additional treatment. Just one month later, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had to undergo radiation treatment.
As if that weren’t enough, Jim also experienced the heartbreaking loss of both his mother and his brother this year.
Jim is a widower and, even in his 70s, remains incredibly active in caring for and supporting his adopted special needs son. His son is part of a band made up entirely of special needs musicians—and Jim proudly serves as the band’s main “roadie,” helping with equipment, transportation, and whatever else is needed.
But Jim’s dedication to these young musicians goes far beyond simply helping his son.
For every band rehearsal and every gig, Jim drives from Spring to Pearland to pick up another member of the band so he can be there with the group. That young man lost his father to cancer three years ago. Before he passed, his father asked Jim to look out for his son—and Jim made him a promise that he would always be there for him.
Jim has kept that promise.
Even after his own cancer diagnosis, losing his mother and brother, and everything else life has thrown at him this year, Jim continues to get in his car, make the drive, load the equipment, and show up for these musicians.
That's just who Jim is.
Jim is the kind of person who spends his life helping everyone else, and would never ask anyone to help him.
That’s why his older children decided to organize this benefit as a surprise for Jim.
After more than four decades of pouring into kids, families, students, and the special needs community, we felt it was time to honor Jim and surround him with the same love and support he has given to others for so many years.
