A practical and hands on exploration of trauma informed tools and practice for non-psychotherapeutically trained practitioners
About this Event

The training will explore reasoning and practice for trauma-informed psychosocial group support of UASC. The focus will be on teaching non-psychotherapeutically trained, but informed key workers, practical tools as well as fundamental principles for working with UASC. The goal will be to enable workers to creatively adapt their support to the context, cultural and psychosocial needs of the relevant group or setting, while remaining within the remit of safe practice.

Areas covered will include engagement, psychoeducation, relationship building, distress management, problem solving, managing nightmares, and exploring narratives, what is safe or not safe in engaging in trauma informed practice.

Outcomes:

  • To understand the background and challenges faced by UAS children and young people
  • To gain an awareness of the multiple layers of trauma that may be experienced by UAS children and young people
  • To share practical strategies and tools that can be used with children and young people with high level trauma
  • To become an informed practitioner (where not psychotherapeutically trained)
