Support Act: HEARING THE HARD STUFF

Difficult conversations are an inevitable part of creative work. They rarely happen in formal settings. More often, they arise backstage, between meetings, on tour, in rehearsal rooms, over text, or in moments that feel unexpected and emotionally charged.
HEARING THE HARD STUFF is a practical, interactive workshop designed to help creative workers and leaders respond confidently and compassionately when someone shares something difficult.
Participants develop practical listening skills, learn how to regulate their own responses in emotionally charged situations, and explore clear boundaries around support.
The session focuses on how to validate and respond effectively without minimising, over-promising or taking on the role of counsellor. Through discussion, reflection and applied tools, participants learn how to navigate disclosures relating to stress, burnout, conflict, bullying, harassment, mental health concerns and personal crisis, while maintaining their own wellbeing.
Participants leave with practical frameworks, useful language, clearer boundaries and increased confidence in responding when hard conversations arise.
Light refreshments will be provided
Presented by Support Act, Arts OutWest, Jam Orange & Orange City Bowling Club
Delivered with support from Creative Workplaces
