Did you know your weekly hike can help protect the environment? Join us for Superior on Tap on April 17 to learn how to document species in wetlands around you and increase their conservation value! We don’t know if there are threatened or endangered species living in the areas around us unless we document them. Even with very limited experience or expertise in identifying plants, animals, or insects, you can make important contributions to a wetland’s value by using nothing more than an observant eye and a smartphone. Steve has documented the highest personal iNaturalist species count in Marquette County. He will demonstrate how you can gain awesome observation and identification skills for all species of plants, animals, insects and those elusive birds by using three powerful phone applications: iNaturalist, Merlin Bird ID, and eBird. Come for the bird talk and beer, and leave with a new skill!
About the speaker:
Steve Waller is a retired technical training specialist who taught wind and solar power courses at NMU where he is still a guest speaker. Now he travels the midwest delivering environmental programs, focusing on forest, environmental, and climate issues. The Waller Research Area, which he manages, is a unique 80 acre reserve dedicated to capturing and holding carbon out of the atmosphere.
This event is co-hosted by Citizens for a Safe & Clean Lake Superior, Laughing Whitefish Bird Alliance, and Ore Dock Brewing Company. We suggest a $5-10 donation per person to support CSCLS and LWBA's efforts protecting our environment.
