Marquette County is over 90% forested - how are those forests kept healthy? Join the Marquette County Conservation District and Lake to Lake CISMA at Ore Dock Brewing to hear how these organizations are working in the Central UP to monitor our forests and keep them healthy. Sara Kelso, MCCD District Forester, is a native Yooper and devoted to helping the public care for the forests of the U.P. Her job is to provide free assistance to private landowners in Marquette and Alger counties so they can gain access to knowledge and resources to better steward their forests. Elise Desjarlais, Lake to Lake CISMA Coordinator, has been in the Yoop for nearly 20 years and works to protect the ecosystems of the Upper Great Lakes through invasive species management and native habitat restoration.
Sara and Elise will share about their ongoing work, and provide insights into how you can monitor your own lands and what to be on the look-out for. Plus, hear about how to contribute to improving our ecosystems by planting trees ordered from the MCCD tree sale!
This event is free and open to all ages.
