SuperCentennial Celebrations: Stories From America's Founding
About this Event
Actor Rich Swingle brings key figures of America's founding to life with three brilliant monologues in one evening! Hear him play Thomas Jefferson as he explains the Constitution of the United States. Then watch him transform into Rev. John Bacon in his piece "Something's Brewin' In Boston" about the Boston Tea Party. Finally enjoy Rich's presentation of Rev. John Witherspoon, the 6th president of Princeton University, in a speech entitlted, "A Pastor Signs The Declaration".
It will be an evening destined to entertain, educate and edify. Don't miss this very special occasion!! Folowing this NYC appearance, Rich will be taking his show to Washington, D.C. with for the Fourth of July and perform it at World Stages Theatre inside the Museum of the Bible.
“Thomas Jefferson Explains the Declaration”: On our 250th anniversary as a nation, our third President explains the Declaration of Independence, which he drafted. Some children are invited to the stage, so he can explain it to them… and so adults in our era can understand it better. (Rich will have already performed part of his Thomas Jefferson monologue at The Kennedy Center for the premiere of Star Spangled Adventures the Movie, for which he voiced three characters.)
“Something’s Brewin’ in Boston”: Rev. John Bacon stirs the crowd to join him at his church, the Old South Meeting House, where people will be gathering to plan what would come to be known as the Boston Tea Party. Rev. Bacon reminds a modern audience that “the clergy of this colony understand the solemn charge laid upon us: to shepherd not only souls, but the cause of liberty itself.”
"A Pastor Signs the Declaration": Rev. John Witherspoon, the sixth president of what is now Princeton University, was the only active clergyman and college president to sign the Declaration of Independence. He reflects on the day and the importance of faith in our founding.
