America’s Stonehenge is not just ancient! Among the layers of history discovered here is the story of an exemplary American family, the Pattees. This tour of the property, guided by Mr. Jonathan Pattee who lived on the site from 1802 to 1849, will recount this family’s story against the backdrop of colonial and early American history. First arriving in the New World in the late 1600’s, members of the Pattee family were involved in the border conflicts between New England and New France, the building of the first mills on the nearby Spicket River, the founding of New Hampshire, the fight for independence in the American Revolution, and so much more. Jonathan Pattee himself was even involved in the abolition movement and helped people to escape slavery on the Underground Railroad! Join Mr. Pattee for a tour of his historic property at 7:00 pm on July 27th and watch the sunset over the Spicket River Valley, which played an often overlooked role in American history.Period costumes are encouraged, but not required!
