About this Event

Fly-In Walk at Wakodahatchee Wetlands

Experience one of nature's most breathtaking daily spectacles! Join expert guide Cathie Calvert for a relaxed late-day stroll along the boardwalk at Wakodahatchee Wetlands as hundreds of birds return to roost at sunset — a truly unforgettable South Florida wildlife experience.

About Wakodahatchee

Wakodahatchee, meaning "created waters" in Seminole, is a 50-acre constructed wetland built by Palm Beach County Water Utilities. What was once unused utility land has been transformed into a lush habitat supporting one of the region's most vibrant bird communities. More than 178 species have been recorded here, including herons, egrets, Anhingas, cormorants, and roosting waterfowl that gather in remarkable numbers as the day winds down.

About the Event

As the sun dips toward the horizon, Wakodahatchee comes alive. Watch as wave after wave of birds glide in from across the wetlands to claim their roosting spots for the night. The spectacle of color, movement, and sound at golden hour is unlike anything else in South Florida birding.

Cathie Calvert will guide you through the action, helping you identify species on the wing, understand roosting behaviors, and make the most of the incredible light for photos and observation. Whether you are picking up binoculars for the first time or have years of field experience, the fly-in never disappoints.

We will move at a leisurely pace along the boardwalk, stopping to observe and take in the full show as dusk settles over the marsh.

Bring binoculars, a camera, and a sense of wonder. This one is not to be missed.
