Sunset Fishing at Arabia Mountain

What to expect: Join us for a relaxing evening of fishing at Arabia Lake. We will start at the Nature Center for a short safety orientation, and then hike 1 mile along the Forest Trail to Arabia Lake with our fishing gear for the program. The full program lasts 2.5 hours. All levels of fishing experience are welcome. Comfortable footwear and clothing for the weather are recommended.

We’ll provide the fishing gear and instruction, but you’re more than welcome to bring your own gear.

Program leader: Your guide will be Ranger Rachel Roberts, the DeKalb County Park Naturalist at Arabia Mountain as well as Jennifer Dickie, the Program Manager at the Arabia Alliance.

Where to meet: Find Ranger Rachel or Jennifer under the kiosk in front of the Nature Center (3787 Klondike Rd.).

What to bring: Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and outdoor hiking shoes. We have to hike 1 mile to get to Arabia Lake. Please bring your own water and any snacks you might need to stay energized and hydrated throughout the evening. If you have an easily transportable camp chair or outdoor sitting mat, feel free to bring those as well. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for sun protection, as well as insect repellent to keep the bugs at bay.

Restrooms: Public restrooms are available in front of the Nature Center. You will look for a brown building with red doors.

Recommended ages: This program content is designed for all ages.

Dogs: This program is NOT appropriate for dogs, so please leave your pup at home.

Weather contingency: This program will be held rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs (RPCA).

Walking distance: 2 miles (1 mile out and 1 mile back)

Exposure: This walk is mostly under shaded tree canopy while the lake is mostly in full sun.

Trail surface & accessibility: This program stays on established soft trails of mixed terrain. There are sections of the walk that are quite steep and also have exposed roots.
