Seit 1998 erheben Greg Anderson und Stephen O’Malley ihre E-Gitarren als Sunn O))) und destillieren den Metal-Powerchord zu einem urzeitlichen Drone, der Rhythmus und konventionelle Form vollständig verschlingt. In Nebel und Lautstärke gehüllt, entfalten sich ihre Performances als infernalische Klangbäder – gleichermaßen andächtig wie überwältigend.
Nun kehrt das Duo mit einem neuen, selbstbetitelten Album zurück, ihrem ersten Longplayer für die ebenfalls aus Seattle stammende Legenden-Plattenfirma Sub Pop.
Das Projekt auf seinen Kern reduzierend, treiben Anderson und O’Malley Gitarre, Bass und Synthesizer in symphonische Extreme. Mit forensischer Detailgenauigkeit aufgenommen, sendete das Duo seine seismischen Klänge aus dem Studio ins Freie und nahm sie über weite Distanzen hinweg erneut auf. Durch die Landschaft verstärkt und gefiltert, entstanden die Songs dabei aus weit über hundert Gitarrenspuren gleichzeitig. Das Ergebnis ist ein hyperdestillierter Monolith aus knurrender Verzerrung, schillerndem Feedback und niederfrequentem Druck, der Verstärker-Verehrung mit dem Grollen fernen Wetters verschmelzen lässt.
Bei dieser Performance wird Sunn O))) das neue Album in voller Länge präsentieren.

Since 1998, Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley have raised their electric guitars as Sunn O))), distilling the metal power chord into a primordial drone consuming rhythm and conventional form whole. Cloaked in fog and volume, their performances unfold in infernal sound baths, devotional and overwhelming in equal measure.
Now the duo return with a new self-titled album, their first full-length for fellow Seattle legends Sub Pop. Stripping the project back to its core, Anderson and O’Malley push guitar, bass and synthesizer to symphonic extremes. Captured with forensic detail and re-amped into the landscape itself, the album’s recording sessions blasted the duo’s seismic tones into the outdoors and re-recorded them across vast distances, building songs from well over a hundred guitar tracks at a time. The result is a hyperdistilled monolith of snarling distortion, glinting feedback and low-frequency pressure that merges amplifier worship with the rumble of distant weather.
