Sunday World Music Sessions: Heart of Africa (Live)
About this Event
The summer Fringe madness is over and Heart of Africa (Live) is BACK, in its usual Sunday afternoon time slot.
Curated and hosted by Senegal’s Samba Sene, this month's special guests are the brilliant Gnawa Trance Fusion (led by Moroccan-born Omar Afif, with singer & guembri, Andy Cooke on balandina, Steve Kettley on sax, Duncan Biggar on drums and Simona Simeone on backing vocals).
The band blends traditional Nord African Gnawa rhythms with elements of trance, jazz, blues and funk. Rooted in spiritual and ceremonial music, their sound is deep, powerful and designed to move both body and soul.
We also have the fabulous Jules Sow back, with his kora, and Senegalese drummers and traditional songs with Samba.
