About this Event

Burgh House presents Sunday Sounds, our recital series showcasing emerging musicians.

Galina Umanski brings to Burgh House her programme Through Storms and Dreams. This programme unveils dreamlike, enchanted worlds, from Beethoven’s Tempest Sonata, through the poetic preludes of Pasternak and the mystical, otherworldly depths of Scriabin’s Black Mass Sonata, to Prokofiev’s theatrical Cinderella.

Galina Umanskiy is a pianist of the Moscow school tradition whose artistic interests extend beyond music into art, literature, psychology, philosophy, and symbolism. She believes that exploring these interconnected fields can deepen our understanding of music and reveal new ways of communicating its meaning and beauty to audiences.

Galina creates programmes connecting music with wider intellectual and cultural ideas, including lecture-recitals and pairings such as Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I in C major with Messiaen’s Noël from Vingt Regards.

Recent activities include performances at Global Artists Debut concerts at Carnegie Hall (2023, 2025) and Salle Cortot (2025, 2026), as well as organising a Scriabin lecture-recital and a charity concert in tribute to Armenia at Pushkin House, London. Galina has participated in various masterclasses, including those with Prof. Margarita Fyodorova and Artur Ancelle. A laureate of international piano competitions in Spain, Russia, Germany, Belarus, Turkey, Hong Kong, South Korea and Italy, she has also performed at festivals in Russia, Spain, and Greece and collaborated with orchestras in the UK, Spain, and Russia. She received her early musical education from Prof. Dmitry Lyudkov at the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory before studying at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, completing her Bachelor’s with First-Class Honours and TCL Scholarship support, followed by a Master’s with Distinction. She continued her artistic development in Paris with Prof. Ludmila Berlinskaïa and is currently completing her Artist Diploma at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

She is currently active as a solo performer in the United Kingdom and France, regularly appearing in recitals.

Her repertoire ranges widely across historical periods and styles, encompassing works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Liszt, Ravel, Scriabin, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, and Messiaen.

Doors open: 12.50pm
