Sunday Lecture Series with Jason Chakravarty and Jennifer Caldwell

Splitting his time between Arizona and Washington, Jason Chakravarty is a mixed-media artist known for his narrative sculptures. He began incorporating neon into his glass art while studying at Arizona State University, eventually earning his MFA from California State University, Fullerton. His work, which frequently uses cast glass and neon, draws on personal observations of human relationships and social networking.

A Kingston, Washington-based artist, Jennifer Caldwell began working with glass in 2000 in Hawaii and later honed her skills in lampworking in Italy with master Cesare Toffolo. Inspired by the ocean and its inherent paradoxes, her work uses humor and whimsy to explore life’s experiences and capture the fluid movement of sea life in glass. Her award-winning art is featured in numerous museum collections and has been exhibited internationally.

Since 2012, Jennifer Caldwell and Jason Chakravarty have collaborated as JC Squared, combining her flameworking with his cast and blown glass techniques. Their work is based on a dialogue about their individual styles and shared observations from life and travel. The resulting pieces, which often focus on the relationship between humans and nature, have been widely collected and exhibited in galleries and museums.

We invite you to join us on January 11th to hear from these inspiring artists and to witness them work in our hotshop. Lectures begin promptly at noon followed by hot glass demos until 4pm.
