About this Event
Join Indiana Audubon for a morning of early spring birding among the often productive waterfowl haven found at Summit Lake State Park, in east central Indiana. Summit Lake covers 2,680 acres, including an 800-acre lake. The park is a mix of woodlands, old fields, wetlands, and prairie restoration areas which provide a wide range of flora and fauna. More than 100 species of birds reside in the park, and the area is popular among photographers and bird watchers.
The field trip is planned for those that have some waterfowl ID experience and are seeking to improve your ID skills. Registered participants will meet at 9:00 AM ET at the north boat ramp. Simply turn right once you’re in the park and follow the road to the boat ramp.
In recent years, a good variety of waterfowl can be present on the sheltered lake including Bufflehead, Mergansers, Scaup, Ruddy Ducks, and more. We will also drive the nearby areas of the park in search of early migrants and raptors.
