Job Readiness and Life Skills Class has gotten a boost, thanks to a collaboration with local artist Mavis McMillan. Creative Writing Practices for Work and Beyond is a summer workshop series taking place on the last Monday of May through August 2026. Each session will focus on a different area of creative writing with activities and discussion.
Skills learned apply to creative writing for personal and professional purposes, as well as to developing skilled approaches to work more broadly. Primary activities include creative prompt collages (May), character design (June), songwriting (July) and crafting dialogue (August).

Mavis McMillan (they/she) is an early-career playwright and scholar with an HBA in Drama, Gender Studies and English from the University of Toronto Mississauga. Notable experience includes presentations at the Fringe North Festival (Sault Ste. Marie, 2021-2023), PlaySmelter (Sudbury, 2023, 2024) and FOOT 34 (Toronto, 2026). Current work includes explorations in text collage theatre, theatrical writing supported by the Ontario Arts Council and a new squirrel musical in development.
