Create a beautiful piece of mathematical artwork using just a compass and pencil. Discover hidden patterns, symmetry and geometric designs while learning a surprising side of mathematics.

Perfect for curious, creative students aged 10-16 who enjoy maths, art, puzzles, drawing or design.

Lots of children who might be unsure about a "maths workshops" would love this - it's all about the art!

Explore how using a pair of compasses you can draw layers of circles to build up pictures and patterns. From the seed of life to the flower of life and spotting symmetry and other shapes as we go.

Geometric art links into typography, product design, architecture and of course mathematics. And many people also find the process of drawing in this way very calming too.

Moordown Community Centre, 10-11am, 17th August

• Small group sessions (max 6 students)
• Students age 10-16 years old
• All materials included

• Drawing skills link in with the ‘constructions’ GCSE topic within the maths curriculum
• Mathematical language used to desribe parts of a cirlce and the process of drawing. knowledge required by the GCSE curriculum.
• Free car parking, and cafe on site that parents are welcome to use

Home educating? These sessions are great taster sessions for my upcoming Mathematical art workshop series.

About me:

I'm Beth and I am a qualified mathematics teacher with a love for exploring maths beyond the curriculum! Geometric art is one of my favourite things to explore, along with other quirky maths that perhaps gets missed in a standard classroom.

Don't worry this session will mention some key maths where needed... but is all about the art!
