We're back for another session of Blues Dancing!
Our hall is booked and we're ready to dance!
Thursday 9th, 16th and 23rd January @7.30pm - Baxter Hall
$20 via cash or PayID at the door.
In our previous Blues classes we danced some different idioms within the Jukin' Style. We explored different tempos, how to connect, how to improvise and how to get down.
Summer Blues Series is next!
For 3 weeks starting Jan 9th we will explore Ballroomin'
Ballroomin' as a style of Blues dancing was adopted during the slower tempo songs played by Jazz bands at the dance clubs in New York. Styled with aesthetics from vernacular swing, and solo movement, and from ballroom dance of the era, such as the foxtrot, waltz and quickstep.
The idioms of Ballroomin' are The Stride, Strut and Savoy Walk. They share combinations including traveling, turns and pivots, and momentum changes danced whilst in a more upright posture.
We don't get to hear as much slow bluesy jazz on the Lindy floor
so we're also going to dance to some great tunes. We can't wait!
What you need to know!
*No previous dance or Blues dance experience necessary!
*Our beginner classes always start with the basics, and then we build from there. We'll vary the content as well as revisit a few fundamentals.
Bring a water bottle and wear comfy shoes you can dance in.
No partner needed. We rotate partners throughout class.
Blues is a social dance, but it's also totally fine if you don't want to change partners.
You can bring a buddy, and let us know you only wish to dance the class with them.
We are very conscious of providing a safe learning space where everyone feels comfortable expressing themselves whilst trying something new.
Our aim is for you to have fun, dance socially and meet some new friends whilst also learning about the history of Blues Music and Dance.
