What's better than a Summer Poetry Night?! You are warmly invited for an evening of readings and conversations with three award-winning poets, Anna Veprinska, Tolu Oloruntoba and Lisa Richter, reading from their newest poetry collections. Hosted by the fabulous Micheline Maylor!
Monday, July 20 at 7:00 pm at Owl’s Nest Books in Calgary, AB.

Author Bios:
Anna Veprinska is the author of the poetry collections Bonememory (University of Calgary Press, 2025) and Sew with Butterflies (Steel Bananas Press, 2014), the chapbooks Stone Blossom (Anstruther Press, 2022) and Spirit-clenched (Gap Riot Press, 2020), and the monograph Empathy in Contemporary Poetry after Crisis (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020), which received Honourable Mention in the Memory Studies Association First Book Award. She won the 2025 Chinook Poetry Contest, was a finalist for the 2026 and 2024 Ralph Gustafson Prize, and was shortlisted for the 2023 and 2021 Austin Clarke Prize in Literary Excellence. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at the University of Calgary. Her recently published book is Wound Archive.
Tolu Oloruntoba is a long-lapsed physician based in Calgary, Alberta. His third poetry collection, Unravel, is available now.
Lisa Richter is a Toronto-based poet, writer, and educator. She is the author of three collections, including Nautilus and Bone, whose honours include the Canadian Jewish Literary Award for Poetry. Her work has previously appeared in literary journals and anthologies across the country, including Best Canadian Poetry, The New Quarterly, The Fiddlehead, and elsewhere. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph and will be serving as the next Writer-in-Residence at McMaster University and the Hamilton Public Library. Her most recent book, Sublunary, is now out with University of Alberta Press.
Dr. Micheline Maylor is a Poet Laureate Emerita of Calgary (2016-18). She was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award for literary contributions to Alberta in 2022. She is the senior acquisitions editor (poetry) at Frontenac House Press. She is a Walrus talker, a TEDX talker, and a past Calgary Public Library Author in Residence (2016). Her most recent book is The Bad Wife (U of A Press 2021) won the BPAA Robert Kroetsch Award for best book of Alberta poetry and has been translated into Italian La Cattiva Moglie (iQdB). Her latest essay introduces Hunger: The Poems of Susan Musgrave (Wilfred Laurier Press. 2025).
