Continue our seasonal Phenology Hike series with a guided summer walk focused on the vibrant energy and abundance of the natural world! As days reach their peak length and warmth, plants and animals are in full swing growing, feeding, pollinating, and thriving in dynamic and fascinating ways. This summer hike invites participants to slow down, observe, and document the height of the year’s ecological activity.
Participants will build on the concept of Phenology—the study of nature’s seasonal rhythms—and explore how careful observation can help connect us with the more than human world. This hike will include hands-on observation, discussion, and opportunities to practice noticing and recording phenological cues such as flowering plants, insect activity, and signs of animal life.
As part of this four-part series that meets once each season, this program offers a chance to revisit the same landscape and deepen your understanding of how it changes over time. Each hike can stand alone, but together they create a richer, year-long perspective on the rhythms of the natural world.
Difficulty: Easy to moderate; suitable for most ages. The trail at Meadowbrook varies from gravel paths to moderate trails with stairs and bare roots. The hike is suitable for all experience levels and encourages curiosity, mindful observation, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
What to Bring: Weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear, water, sun protection, and curiosity.
Weather Policy: Rain or shine. Event will be cancelled in inclement weather. No rain date.
Amenities: Accessible outdoor restrooms and parking will be available. No potable water.
