There’s always an anxious excitement when I play somewhere I’m still getting to know. I’ve played at Teddy’s once or twice before, but that feeling is definitely still there. I’m looking forward to walking in, seeing who comes out, and finding out which songs we’ll connect over this time.
On Friday, March 12, 2027, at 6 p.m., I’ll be bringing SUMMER of ’86 back to Teddy’s Sports Bar & Grill in Herrin!
Even after years of performing, every room gives me something different to think about. There might be familiar faces from a previous visit, people who’ve seen me somewhere else, or somebody hearing me for the very first time. You never quite know how an evening will unfold, and that’s part of the excitement. Then the first few songs happen, somebody starts singing along, and you begin to feel that connection grow.
If you haven’t caught a SUMMER of ’86 show yet, my music stretches from 1950 all the way through 2010, with a heavy dose of the ’80s. I love those big choruses, unforgettable melodies, and songs that can take you back decades in just a few notes. But I also enjoy reaching into other eras and bringing out a favorite you might not have heard in a while.
I put a lot of myself into choosing these songs. I have to enjoy them, feel connected to them, and believe I can do them justice. Some remind me of listening to the radio growing up. Others have stayed with me through different chapters of my life. When I play them, I’m sharing a little of that history—and hopefully giving you a chance to revisit some of yours.
That’s what I’m looking forward to building at Teddy’s. Each visit is another opportunity to get to know the people, share more music, and turn a place I’ve played a couple of times into somewhere that feels familiar. If you were there for one of my earlier shows, I’d love to see you again. If this will be your first, come introduce yourself!
