Bio:
Dan Kurfirst is a NYC based percussionist, composer and improviser. He has performed extensively in the New York City world music and improvised music scenes for years and has performed with various groups throughout Europe, India and the Middle East.
As a leader and co-leader he works regularly with The American Sufi Project, Ensemble Fanaa, and Arkinetics.
He recently worked as Musical Director for the Childrens Museum of Manhattan’s America To Zanzibar exhibit, helping to develop a touchscreen application for the Children to explore music of the Islamic world from India to Egypt to Indonesia.
Brandon Terzic is an oud player. He has performed with everyone from Sudanese singer Alsarah to master composer Henry Threadgill. Drawing on his blues guitar roots, he has absorbed the well spring of Malian griot and Moroccan Gnawa traditions, as well as the downtown NYC improv aesthetic, and forged it into the sonic calligraphy of the Arabic Oud.
The School of Sufi Teaching offers instruction in teachings of five main Sufi Orders to awaken the hidden powers of the self and make them operative in life. The School strives to understand the essential nature of humans, the universe, and humanity’s relation to it in a way relevant to the contemporary world.
