What to Expect at Your Course Interview
We want all applicants to feel informed and prepared when attending their interview for a childcare course that includes a placement while studying. The details below outline what will happen during the interview, what you will need to complete, and the requirements linked to your offer. Each session will be in groups of up to 12.
During the Interview
You will receive a clear overview of the course, including structure, expectations, assessment methods, and the placement requirements you will complete while on programme.
- We will explain the entry requirements, including academic grades and any additional criteria.
- All course offers are conditional and depend on you meeting the required entry grades and providing the information needed to support your placement.
- We will discuss your motivation for working with children, any previous experience, and your readiness for a practical placement alongside your studies.
Interview Form
- An interview form must be completed in full as part of the interview.
This helps us make informed decisions and ensures we understand how to best support your success on the programme.
Placement and DBS Requirements
- As childcare roles involve working with children and young people, a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is essential, prior to enrolment.
- A placement cannot be confirmed until your DBS clearance is complete; therefore your course and placement offer remains subject to a fully cleared DBS.
How to Prepare
- Be ready to discuss why you want to study childcare and what interests you about working with children.
- Be prepared to discuss the documents required ahead of enrolment (e.g. predicted grades, ID for DBS verification).
- Consider any support needs, commitments, or circumstances that may impact your placement or study so we can plan tailored support where appropriate.
