SUBCINEMA Presents I LIKE KILLING FLIES
About this Event
Did you know you're a piece of sh*t? It's true. We all are. We're selfish, egotistical and rude. And according to the late great master chef Kenny Shopsin, that's okay as long as every once in a while you do something selfless and pure. As owner and proprietor of Shopsin's General Store in New York City since the 1970s, Kenny created a 900+ item menu boasting such tasty treats as Slutty Cakes and Blisters on my Sisters, while cultivating an atmosphere of eccentrics alongside his wife and kids, who also worked at the diner. This experience was captured by artist and filmmaker Matt Mahurin in his 2004 documentary I LIKE KILLING FLIES, a lo-fi documentation of the final days of the Shopsin store in its original location in Greenwich Village before moving to a new location. Join us for a screening of the film along with a free raffle of Kenny's cookbook Eat Me: The Food and Philosophy of Kenny Shopsin. Make sure to enjoy some of Kenny's free chili as well.
