About this Event

Welcome to Strollin Down MLK!

Given the present cultural, social and political climate of the United States, what might Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., or his wife, Coretta Scott King, say if they walked along any of the 900-plus roadways named in his honor across the nation?

That’s among the discussion points raised in “Strollin’ Down MLK,” an interactive two-character, one-act play produced by Kingdom Impact Theater Ministries. The show will be presented at Timothy Community Corporation , 4351 S Drexel Blvd, in Chicago’s historic Bronzeville neighborhood, Saturday, January 17, 2026. Curtain raises at 12 PM followed immediately by an audience Q&A with the cast. The is free event, however, reservations are requested.

Event Date: January 17, 2026 at 12:00 PM (Central Time)

“Strollin’ Down MLK” is the first of original productions in the KIT Ministries six-play series, “Convergence of History: Four Anniversaries, One Faith,” that dramatize people and events of U.S. and African-American history and the role of Christianity in shaping each. The performance at Timothy Community Corporation is a contribution to celebrations of the Martin Luther King Holiday on Monday, January 19, 2026

About The Show

“Strollin’ Down MLK” was created by KIT Ministries founders Michael Edgar Myers and Vikki J. Myers, who also perform the roles of Dr. and Mrs. King. The story imagines the Kings reuniting for a date in eternity during which they reflect on their lives as a couple, as civil rights pioneers, and the legacy of their work. Dr. King particularly wonders about his influence among current generations living on the thoroughfares named in his honor, the majority of which are in communities with predominately African-American populations. King is especially emotional that frequent references to “I have a dream” without seeing fruits of his vision has made the phrase a cliche.

“It’s almost as if all they know about me is that speech, and Memphis,” he wonders to his spouse, the latter in reference to the site of his assassination in 1968.

Mrs. King’s rejoinders allow him, and the audience, to explore many of Rev. King’s lesser noted speeches that have gained poignancy during recent presidential administrations. Their banter culminates with the pastor expressing a new dream, beginning with his envisioned one-on-one Oval Office conversation with the current President of the United States.

By juxtaposing Rev. King’s words with today’s headlines and visuals of the current state of King Streets across the globe, Kingdom Impact Theater presents a theatrical experience in the spirit of the purpose of Martin Luther King Day celebrations: Unity. To help serve this purpose, a post-show conversation between the audience and the cast is vital element of the event which will last approximately 90 minutes.

“Strollin’ Down MLK” is an entertaining mix of drama, humor and song that not only educates about the lives of Rev. and Mrs. King, it empowers the viewers to examine matters of faith and its role in resolving human and civil rights issues in contemporary society. By revisiting non-violent methods and rhetoric of the past, “Strollin’ Down MLK” prepares modern audiences to overcome what seem oppressive obstacles, just as Rev. and Mrs. King did a half-century ago.
