Learning Objective 1:
Understand the role of Stretch Energy Codes in existing buildings – Participants will be able to explain the fundamental principles of Stretch Energy Codes and identify when they apply to renovations of existing buildings.
Learning Objective 2:
Identify key compliance pathways and project types affected by Stretch Energy Codes – Participants will learn about different types of projects that fall under the Stretch Code requirements and explore the available compliance options.
Learning Objective 3:
Analyze the process for calculating thermal enclosure performance – Participants will gain knowledge of how to assess thermal enclosure upgrades, including understanding the conditions that mandate such upgrades during renovations.
Learning Objective 4:
Evaluate the impact of Stretch Energy Codes on energy efficiency and emissions reduction goals – Participants will explore case studies and design considerations to understand how Stretch Codes drive sustainable practices and support jurisdictions in achieving energy and emissions targets.

Brian Neely, AIA, CDT, BECxP, Vice President/Senior Associate
Brian Neely, AIA, CDT, BECxP is Vice President at Gale Associates, Inc and Director of the Building Enclosure Consulting and Commissioning Group. Mr. Neely is a certified Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider and is actively involved with supplying design review analysis and managing building enclosure commissioning and testing services for new construction and renovation projects. Mr. Neely is a past President of the Boston Building Enclosure Council and assisted the National Institute of Buildings Science in the development and presentation of the building enclosure training program. Mr. Neely is a long-time member of ABAA and has presented at several conferences including the IIBEC National conference.
Sam W. Wesselman, RA, Senior Architect
Sam W. Wesselman, RA performs technical tasks and field work such as building enclosure evaluations and construction phase services. He is an architect by training and has assisted in the design and development of architectural building elements for additions, entrance canopies, and elevator towers to comply with ADA/accessibility for existing structures. He specializes in historic preservation and energy performance of new and existing buildings.
