NYC urban forest is calling you! The Lower East Side Ecology Center and Adamah NY are teaming up for a family-friendly event in honor of City of Forest Day, an annual celebration of urban tree canopy. This year, the festivities coincide with Sukkot, a Jewish holiday which appropriately marks the capacity of nature to provide shelter and respite.
In this event, we will...
- Explore the environmental benefits of the urban forest
- Learn basic tree ID methods
- Care for trees in the historic Lower East Side tenement district by cleaning tree beds, cultivating soil, and applying NYC-made compost
- Create colorful, hand-made, tree bed signs

So whether you are looking for a fun way to celebrate Sukkot, or simply to give back, you are welcome to join us as we recognize our place in the world and deepen our appreciation for the earth and all it provides.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
Street tree care is suitable for people ages 5+ who are comfortable with hands-on activities. Kneeling is optional. Kids under 14 require adult supervision.
WHERE TO MEET
Meet us in front of the flagpole by the public restrooms in Seward Park.
WHAT TO BRING
Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, and clothes you are comfortable getting dirty in. Hats are highly suggested on sunny days. Don’t forget to bring your reusable water bottle!

Adamah NY is a Jewish Environmental organization supporting communities across NYC, Westchester & Long Island with Climate Action, Immersive Jewish Learning, and Youth Empowerment.
The Lower East Side Ecology Center is a nonprofit organization that has pioneered community-based models in urban sustainability since 1987, providing unique waste and composting services, environmental stewardship opportunities, and educational programming to all New Yorkers who want to learn about environmental issues and take responsibility for creating solutions through action.
