Special "City of Forest" day walking tour with a focus on local, national and natural cycles- especially trees!
About this Event

Meet the beautiful people and places that keep this dynamic south Brooklyn community rolling. We begin under a huge willow tree (celebrating her 30th birhtday!) in a former gas station-turned community garden. A special "City of Forest" art exhibit adorns the land on this particular day. Arrive early to soak up the show, and explore the art, solar arbor, and other thoughtful details of this magical place. Many of those whom have created this special place will be present.

The walk will be approximately 1 mile, and 2 hours. Likely stops include

  • an armory built in the 1890s, and the Dorie Miller American Legion
  • Mixteca & its "Our Journey Blooms" mural by Michelle Angela Ortiz
  • "Butterfly Gardens"
  • Open Source Gallery's "The 7th Time" art by Kimberly Fulton Orozco
  • Green-wood Cemetery's "Offering" installation by Jean Shin

Special attention will be paid to concepts of reciprocity & regeneration rooted in Indigenous America. This "collage of community" will emphasize the power of collective action and creativity through a unique mix of storytelling. As usual, this STREET / ART walk is not scripted, and promises to be as unique as it's community!
