Chris Firkus holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science & Policy with an Aquatic Ecosystems emphasis from UW-Green Bay. As an environmental consultant, he serves his clients, including Trout Unlimited, by performing ecological assessments, stream restoration, ecological inventories, and protection for threatened and endangered species. He is a board member and Membership Chair of Fox Valley Trout Unlimited, and he is a member TU CARES, serving large scale conservation projects for trout in the Central Sands region of Wisconsin. Residing in Westby, WI, he sleuths the heart of the driftless for some of the largest trout that the region has to offer, utilizing a variety of tactics centered around streamers.
Chris routinely shares his experiences and expeditions through Instagram and Facebook under the handle @Riparian.Life where he details fishing reports, current stream conditions, seasonal changes, tips on fly tying and selection, and discusses ongoing coldwater conservation issues throughout the Midwest.
