Grow fresh, flavorful strawberries right in your backyard with two outstanding University of Florida strawberry varieties!
About this Event

Developed through the University of Florida's strawberry breeding program, these varieties offer Florida gardeners an opportunity to grow locally developed strawberries while enjoying the satisfaction of harvesting fresh fruit from their own gardens.

Meet the Berries: Ember vs. Encore

Strawberry Plants-Florida Ember (Pre-Order Ships October) – Whitwam Organics

Ember

This University of Florida variety produces medium-to-large, uniformly shaped berries with a beautiful, bright-red exterior and a lighter-colored interior. Its low-acid, high-sugar flavor profile makes it especially appealing to gardeners who enjoy sweet, fresh-picked strawberries. Ember also offers excellent disease resistance, steady production, and good tolerance to rain-related fruit damage. It is particularly notable for its improved resistance to Neopestalotiopsis, a troublesome strawberry disease.

Growing Ember™ and Encore™ Strawberries in Central Florida - UF/IFAS Extension

UF/IFAS Strawberry Varieties

Encore

Encore produces large, glossy, evenly colored red berries with a medium-red interior. Its firm texture contributes to excellent shelf life and shipping quality, while its vigorous growth and strong early production make it an appealing variety for strawberry growers. Encore also offers improved rain resistance and fruit durability, helping maintain attractive fruit quality under challenging growing conditions.

These varieties were developed with important Florida growing conditions in mind, including:

· Florida adaptability: Selected to perform under Florida's unique production conditions.

· Improved disease resistance: Both varieties offer valuable disease-resistance characteristics.

· Excellent fruit quality: Attractive red berries with desirable flavor, texture, and appearance.

· Strong production potential: Vigorous plants with promising early-season yields.

· Research-based innovation: Products of traditional plant breeding and university research, not genetic engineering.
