Strategic Disaster Management: Planning, Risk and Response Short-course

Discover how to build a comprehensive and strategic approach to disaster management in this dynamic course. You’ll gain a structured understanding of the field while exploring the latest national and international best practices used to shape effective disaster management plans and policies.

Throughout the course, you will:

• Explore key global definitions and concepts that underpin modern disaster management
• Learn proven strategies for risk reduction, including how to identify, assess, and prepare for a wide range of hazards
• Develop practical skills by collaborating with peers and mentors on a real-world strategic planning exercise
• Contribute to the creation of a national disaster management plan, working across government, emergency services, military agencies, and both public and private sector organisations

This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge, critical thinking, and collaborative skills needed to make a meaningful impact in disaster preparedness and response.

Please note: this 5-day course, which is also a module (Developing Policies and Plans) within the Masters in Resilience and Disaster Management Programme, can be taken as a non-accredited CPD course. This option allows you to complete the course without undergoing the assignment process required for the MSc programme **
