Storytelling for Social Justice

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

In this workshop, students will learn about the power of storytelling in the pursuit of social justice. Understanding the impact of narratives and learning how to better craft compelling stories that uplift marginalized voices is the key objective. Students will have the opportunity to engage in dynamic discussions, group activities, and practical exercises to explore the role of storytelling as a catalyst for social change and advocacy. By the workshop’s end, students will be equipped with the tools and techniques necessary to harness the transformative potential of storytelling to shape perceptions, ignite empathy, and drive meaningful change in society.

ABOUT THE TEACHING ARTIST

Tirrea Billings is a progressive communications and media professional that helps social justice organizations, activists, educators, and campaigns maximize their impact through storytelling, digital media, and communication strategy development. She is currently the senior communications manager at United Philanthropy Forum. She also teaches Storytelling for Social Justice at the DC Central Detention Facility through Georgetown University’s Prisons and Justice Initiative. Tirrea holds a Bachelor of Arts in Film/Video/Media Studies and a Master of Arts in Communication from Western Michigan University.

Refund Policy

If your circumstances change and you must withdraw from a class after registering, please be aware of our refund policy:

Withdrawal 30 or more calendar days before the first day of a program: 75% refund

Withdrawal 11-29 calendar days before the first day of a program: 50% refund

Withdrawal 10 or fewer calendar days before a program: No refund

In the event of the participants withdraw, the Eventbrite fees will be charged to the registrant.
