About this Event
Come learn the art of storytelling!
This special Storytelling Camp blends creative making with outdoor exploration and cultural discovery. Campers will craft their own stories with help from local storytellers, artists, and naturalists. Over the course of the whirlwind week, participants will also be introduced to buried histories of our region and guided through local ecosystems. Storytelling Camp will teach participants how to bring together creative making and deep understandings of place in order to tell a story of their own design.
Campers will spend a significant amount of time working on stories of their own, which will be presented at the end of the week. They will also take trips to local places where they will experience storytelling in place and experiment with place-based writing. Field trips locations include:
- Southeast Ohio History Center
- Robinson's Cave
- Paynes Crossing
The trip schedule may be revised depending on weather and/or the nature of stories that campers focus on. A complete schedule will be provided to registered campers the week before the camp begins. Any changes to the trip schedule during the week will be communicated to caregivers 24-hours in advance.
Summer camps offered by Rural Action’s Environmental Education team are focused on experiential learning. These camps immerse participants in nature with a focus on building knowledge, skills, and confidence while connecting campers more deeply with the natural environment. Campers explore local watersheds and knowledge while having fun and learning in a safe, supportive environment led by our experienced environmental educators.
Whether it's their first outdoor adventure or they’re seasoned explorers, every camper will find opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with nature.
