About this Event

Stories define how we think about other people, ourselves, and the world around us. To take control of a story is to take agency; to make a story together is to work toward a new world. In Storyteller’s Guild, we will tell stories together using dice, a deck of playing cards, tokens, coins, a Jenga tower, tarot cards, and (above all) the cooperative power of our own imaginations.

Dungeons and Dragons is the most famous (and by many metrics the first) tabletop RPG; we will not be playing it. We will instead dive into the vibrant world of modern indie role-playing games, with everything from local designer Caro Asercion’s city-building game i’m sorry did you say street magicto the tarot heist hijinks of Royal Blood to the one-of-a-kind legacy RPG Yazeba’s Bed & Breakfast. No prior experience with roleplaying games is required to partake; complete beginners and RPG veterans alike are welcome!

Logistics:

Camp runs 9am-3pm Monday-Friday, right here at Victory Point Café. Camp is divided into two sections; kids are welcome to join us for just one week or bundle both for the full experience!

One week of camp costs $350 and includes lunch, snacks, and drinks from the café. Two weeks of camp can be bundled for $600.

Five spots are available per week. To sign up, please fill out and we will be in touch! Email [email protected] with any questions.

The Program In Detail:

Week 1: Building Worlds

From July 6th-10th, we’ll spend our mornings playing games geared toward building worlds, cities, and myriad other settings. In the afternoon, we’ll take the worlds we’ve built and use different games to make characters and explore them in singular, contained stories.

Week 2: The Campaign

From July 13th-17th, we’ll spend our mornings playing games designed to be finished in a single setting. Our afternoons will be consumed by a continuous multi-session story that digs deeper into the mechanics and potential of one of the games campers tried out in Week 1; we’ll vote on which one!

About Your Game Master:

Rory Dreyfus (he/him) also runs Storyteller’s Guild as an afterschool program at local elementary schools, going on adventures with princess cats, living phones, and tiny wizard owls. In the grown-up world, he is the puppeteer behind Victory Point Café’s numerous daily events and a co-founder of the Bay Area TRPG Society (BATS).
