The 10th Annual Menlo Park Storytelling Festival continues, with personal stories from Moth StorySlam winner Regina Stoops! Growing up in a town called Normal, Regina felt her life was anything but.
Regina’s tales are infused with candid humor, bringing light to the struggles and strengths of the human condition.
Life as a gay suburban housewife, active member of the Catholic church, parent of a special needs child, and, most recently, a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis provides a host of reasons to feel outside the “norm.” Her journey of “coming out” about all facets of her life shows what can happen when being honest about hard truths. What if the truths we keep hidden are the common threads that could bring us together?
About Regina Stoops:
Regina Stoops is a multiple Moth StorySlam Winner, and a National Storytelling Network Grand Slam Finalist. Her Normal Notes blog features the life stories of a special needs parent and a multiple sclerosis warrior raising three kids with her wife in the suburbs.
Regina is cofounder (with Claire Hennessy) of the online storytelling platform Six Feet Apart Productions. The platform has grown to encompass a wide range of storytelling genres and performers, providing entertainment to a loyal global fan base. Regina and Claire were each awarded the National Storytelling Network Oracle Award for Regional Service and Leadership for their work with Six Feet Apart. https://www.reginastoops.com/

About Storytelling:
- Storytelling is telling stories--without using a book.
- It's an ancient art form that predates libraries, and books, and writing.
- It's not necessarily for children!
- Traditional-style storytelling creates unique images in the mind of each listener.
- According to the National Storytelling Network, "storytelling is the interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the elements and images of a story while encouraging the listener’s imagination. In storytelling, the listener imagines the story.”
- According to the Storytelling Association of California (an organization dedicated to promoting storytelling as a living art form), storytelling is “orally passing on adventures, wisdom, experiences, surprise, history, laughter, beliefs and imagination.”
This free event received funding support from the Friends of the Menlo Park Library.
