About this Event
The Ashley Cooper Stormwater Education Consortium and Dorchester County are partnering to present the Stormwater Pond Buffer Workshop at Ashley River Park in Summerville, SC on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024 from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Stormwater ponds are designed to capture stormwater runoff, assist with flood control, and divert nutrients from directly entering natural waterways. There are many benefits to adding a native plant shoreline buffer to a stormwater pond including erosion control, water quality improvement, deterring nuisances species such as geese, and attracting desirable wildlife such as pollinators.
This workshop will include:
- A presentation on the purpose and benefits of stormwater ponds and shoreline buffers
- Stormwater pond shoreline site assessments, site preparation, and planting techniques
- Hands-on experience installing native shoreline plants
- Information and resources for maintaining shoreline buffers on stormwater ponds
Participants must come dressed to plant near the pond. Please wear clothes that can be washed and rain boots or waterproof/washable shoes. A hat, sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle are also recommended.
This workshop is free to attend, but registration is required through Eventbrite. Thank you to our sponsors at Friends of Dorchester County Parks! Registration is open through September 13th.
Target audience: Garden clubs, Master Gardeners, Master Naturalist, Parks and Recreation staff, stormwater pond managers, HOA representatives, and more!
