Discovery Series: The Southern Continental Army Campaign of 1782

The Dorchester Heritage Center is pleased to announce the latest event in its Discovery Series, set to take place on Tuesday, September 24, at 6:30 pm at the Ashley River Branch of the Dorchester County Library.

Titled: “Our camp very thin…”; The Southern Continental Army Campaign of 1782, this event will explore the significant role played by the Southern Continental Army, commanded by General Nathanael Greene, in securing American independence during the final stages of the Revolutionary War. Throughout most of 1782, this army, comprised of soldiers from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and other states, campaigned in what is now Dorchester County, supporting the fledgling State Assembly at Jacksonboro and defending key locations like Bacon’s Bridge and the Ashley River area from British incursions. The army was stationed at Middleton Place and Ashley Hill, vital strategic points during this period.

The event will feature a presentation by Bob Sherman, the Director of Museum Operations for the Dorchester Heritage Center. With nearly thirty years of experience in public history and a particular passion for the American Revolution, Bob brings a wealth of knowledge to the discussion. A Rhode Island native, like General Nathanael Greene, Bob’s insights into the Southern Continental Army's campaign promise to be both engaging and informative.
